Spring blooms

A patient we treated recently gave us the most beautiful card. What she wrote inside was touching, thanking our team for the support given throughout her cancer treatment, but I was captivated by the image on the front. It was a photograph of a semi-translucent, purple flower, perfectly illuminated against a stark white backdrop. 

The image had been taken by Warwick Orme, an Australian fashion photographer who has a passion to capture images of flowers displaying their detail, shape and form. He is now known for his striking floral images backlit on a lightbox.

Seeing his work inspired me to try a similar technique and I was able to acquire a discarded X-ray lightbox from the depths of our radiation physics department. They kindly allowed me, somewhat quizzically perhaps, to take it home to shoot on.

These spring blossoms were from my lovely cousin Abbie who was in Sydney recently for a photo shoot. She foraged them on the roadside, while driving in from the country. We placed them in our entry way and I was able to capture some pictures of them before the petals completely dropped, like white paper confetti scattered all over the floor…
